The most important Armenian sanctuary in the world. Each year, on 15th August, it is visited by crowds of pilgrims from every side of the world.
Take a walk to the museum of village. In renovated huts from the area of Bucovina, you will see not only equipment of old houses, but also staged situations, for e.g. guard by corpse.
Suceava on the verge of the 15th and 16th century used to be the capital of Moldavia. Today it is one of the richest in historical buildings cities in Romania. What’s interesting, archaeological works proved that in this area settlements existed already in the ancient times.
Located on the river bank the Throne Tower was built at the end of the 14th century. The castle partially burned two centuries later and then was rebuilt. After other damages, it went into ruin and then finally it was reconstructed in some parts in the 20th century. A white line on the walls separate the original fragments from the 20th-century ones.
In the city, there are a few sanctuaries that belong to the route of painted orthodox churches of northern Moldavia, that are on the UNESCO world heritage list. The most interesting one and beautifully preserved is the 16th-century monastery of St. John the New with preserved parts of frescos from 1534 on the outside.
The most important visiting places you can sightsee with a guide. In Suceava there are a few companies that have such offer. The best opinion has Hello Bucovina Day Tours. You can choose a route from the offered ones or adjust it to your needs.
Citizens of Suceava are eager to spend time outside – sitting on squares or in parks. Kids are everywhere, as is laughter and babble. In many places apart from benches, there are also tables. Maybe you can try your luck at playing chess or backgammon at one of them with locals.
When you get hungry, Suceava will also have a lot to offer. For lamb chop or duck marinate in anise, go to Restaurant Mosaik at Strada Sofia Vicoveanca. When there is good weather, it is worth to choose a table outside in a cozy rose garden. In Restaurant Centru Vechi at Strada Bumbac Vasile, you will eat exquisite spicy Romanian sausages and barbecued ribs. For sweet dessert step by Maison Delice at Strada Curtea Domneasca, where you will get delicious cakes in a very lovely café.
