In Grenoble there is a fortress Bastille, dated back to the 16th century. It used to serve for defence, now it is a great viewing point. You can see from there the whole city and peeks of the Alpes, including the Mount Blanc.
In the city, at 5 Place de Lavalette, there is an art museum – Musee de Grenoble. You can admire there a collection of pieces by masters such as Rubens, Picasso or Chagall.
The cable train going to the summit of Bastille is worth special attention. It is composed of a few trolleys in shape of spheres of steel and glass. They run all the time, stopping only for getting off.
Grenoble is the city located in the eastern part of France, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the department Isère. It is situated in remarkably picturesque area, surrounded by the mountains, from the north – Chartreuse, from the southern west by the range Vercors. It is known mainly in the science world, as premises of a few universities, as well as the centre of nuclear science.
Of course Grenoble is not only about schools. That situated in the Alpine region town, has a lot to offer for lovers of winter sports. It is easy to get from there to insanely popular among tourists from all over the world places, where you can ski or snowboard. These are, among others, Val Thorens or Three Crowns. Nearby ski routes have more than 600 kilometres! In the summer you can’t complain for boredom, there are more than 100 lovely lakes in the neighbourhood, as well as many national parks.
Grenoble is the city tempting to spend in it at least couple of days. It has amazing architecture and wide boulevards, perfect for walks, during which you can try delicious chestnuts. If you fancy something more than just a snack, you won’t get disappointed either. For excellently prepared dished of French cuisine step by La Petite Idee at 7 cours Jean Jaures, to Le Cote at 33 avenue Albert 1er de Belgique or to Une Semaine Sur Deux by 3 rue Condorcet (pay attention to the beautiful front door!). If you fancy something else, visit for instance a restaurant Tchoutchoura, specializing in Greek cuisine, located at 16 rue Gabriel Peri.
In Grenoble there are taking place many cultural events. Among them, it is necessary to mention Festival du Film court en Plein air, which is the oldest festival in France dedicated to short films, taking place in the open air! It takes place every year in July. Another event worth attending are Mountain Meetings with Cinema in November (Rencontres du cinéma de montagne). Surely an interesting proposal is a festival Vues d'en face, dedicated to LGBT films.
