What’s worth seeing in Lamezia?

Lying in the south of Italy, Calabria has everything you need when you are on holidays. You will find beautiful landscapes, authentic life of the Italian province, excellent conditions for sunbathing and water sports, splendid cuisine and peace, which are not offered by more well-known resorts. However, you have to hurry, because the capital of the region, Lamezia Terme, each year delights more and more tourists from around the world.

Lamezia Terme was founded in 1968 as a result of joining three neighboring towns: Nicastro, Sambiase and Sant'Eufemia Lamezia. It can boast of monuments such as the ruins of the Benedictine monastery from the 11th century (Abbazia Benedettina S.Eufemia) or Bastion of the Order of the Knights of Malta (Bastione di Malta) from 1550. Extremely important monument are located on a hill ruins of the castle from the Norman rule. It is worth going there to admire the beautiful panorama of the city. It is also worth seeing the most important temple of the region – the cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul in Nicastro (Chiesa Cattedrale dei SS Pietro e Paolo).
The area around Lamezia is famous for its beautiful beaches. The city ones are rocky or pebble, but empty. To rest on the sand, you have to go, for example, to Gizzera Lido and Falerna Marina. The city is also a perfect starting point for people practicing water sports and those who like active tourism. It is worth going on a day trip to the Pollino national park, where you can go rafting, or Aspromonte or Sila offering numerous trekking routes.

What dishes to taste in Calabria? Certainly those based on eggplants, for e.g. melanzane alla parmigiana (aubergines baked with parmesan), parmigiana di melanzane alla Calarbese (baked aubergines with minced meat, tomatoes, Italian sausage and parmesan cheese). Must try are also specialties with fish and seafood in the main role, which are served in most restaurants. Be sure to try the involtini di pesce drops, i.e. the swordfish swill. Where to eat? We recommend Alla Pentolaccia, La Barrica and Il Quadrifoglio.
