Online check-in: What is it? - Volotea

If you’re travelling with Volotea, we recommend checking in online to avoid extra fees at the airport.

Below you’ll see instructions on how to check in online with Volotea. You’ll also find more information about the airline’s fuel policy.

Online check-in with Volotea

This is the fastest way to get your boarding pass. You can check in online via the official website or in the mobile app.

When can I check in?

Check-in times depend on whether you have pre-booked seats.

  • If you have pre-booked a seat: you can check in at any time once your booking is complete.
  • If you haven’t booked a seat: check-in opens 4 days before your trip and closes 2.5 hours before departure. Check-in is free of charge, and a seat will be assigned to you at random.

What to prepare for check-in?

For a smooth check-in make sure you have the following ready:

  • Your airline booking reference (PNR). You’ll find this on your booking confirmation.
  • Valid identification documents for all passengers (ID card or passport).
  • A payment card in case you need to pay any extra charges (e.g. fuel fee).

Online check-in step-by-step

  1. Go to the Volotea website and select the “Your booking” option from the menu. Then, click the “Get your boarding passes” button.
  2. On the check-in page, click “Get your boarding passes” again. A window will appear, and you must provide:
    • The booking number (PNR code). The code consists of 6-8 characters and can be found on your booking confirmation.
    • The passenger's last name as shown on the booking.
    • In the following steps, you’ll need to provide the passenger details as well as any information from the travel document you'll be using.
    • Pay the fuel fee (if applicable): At this stage, you’ll be informed of any potential surcharge under the Fair Travel Promise policy (details below).
    • Download your boarding pass: Once check-in is complete, you can print it out or save it to your phone.

Fair Travel Promise: Volotea’s Dynamic Fuel Fee

Due to fluctuating fuel prices on the global market, in March 2026 Volotea introduced a "Fair Travel Promise" policy. This means Volotea may add an extra fuel fee to your booking 7 days before your departure. This fee is calculated based on current oil prices and ranges from €0 to €18 per person, per flight.

What do you need to know about the FTP fee?

  • When is it calculated? Seven days before your scheduled departure, Volotea calculates the surcharge based on current Brent crude oil prices.
  • How much is the fee? The surcharge ranges from €0 to €18 per person, per flight.
  • What if oil prices drop? If prices drop significantly from the time of your booking, Volotea will refund the difference.
  • When will I be informed? You’ll find details of the exact amount during the online check-in process on the airline's website.

Do I have to pay?

Yes, you must pay this fee to check in and get your boarding passes.

  • If the fee is not paid, Volotea will block your check-in, and you will not receive your boarding pass.
  • During check-in on the airline's website, you’ll be informed of the additional amount and will have the option to pay it.
  • The airline will only generate your boarding pass after the payment has been completed.
